
Military Installations
Colorado's Front Range is a unique military community – hosting numerous
distinct and complimentary military missions and headquarters functions
on six installations. They are:
United States
Northern Command, (USNORTHCOM) provides command and control of
Department of Defense (DoD) homeland defense efforts and coordinating
defense support of civil authorities--USNORTHCOM defends America's
homeland.
North American Aerospace
Defense Command is a bi-national United States/Canadian organization
charged with aerospace warning and control missions for North America.
Cheyenne
Mountain Directorate, located at Cheyenne Mountain Air Force
Station, conducts seven distinctive mission areas providing aerospace
warning and control for North America.
Air Force Space
Command defends our interest through the control and exploitation of
space, providing a full-spectrum in the application of space power for
national security and joint warfare.
U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic
Command conducts space and missile defense operations, providing
planning, integration, control, and coordination of Army forces and
capabilities in support global missions.
Buckley Air Force
Base guards our nation's high frontier, providing combatant
commanders with superior global surveillance, worldwide missile warning
and homeland defense.
Fort Carson is
a power projection platform (air and rail) and Maneuver Training Center,
preparing mobilizing, deploying, and sustaining combat-ready forces.
Peterson Air Force
Base conducts space operations, providing unsurpassed installation
support and protection while deploying Warrior Airmen. Peterson is also
host to the 302nd Airlift Wing.
Schriever Air
Force Base operates more than 170 DoD satellites and hosts the 310th
Space Group, Missile Defense Integrated Operations Center, Space Innovation and
Development Center, and the Joint Functional Component Command for
Intermediate Missile Defense.
The
United States Air Force Academy is the Air Force’s premier
institution in educating, training, and inspiring men and women to
become officers of character motivated to lead the Air Force in service
to our nation.
The National Security Space Institute is the DoD single focal point for
space education and training, complementing existing space education
programs at Air University, the Naval Postgraduate School and the Air
Force Institute of Technology. |
